What sits up there is genuinely different from the valley floor. Four thousand feet of elevation gives you thinner air and harder ultraviolet, so fabrics and finishes fade faster than the same product does in town. The wind is constant enough that it is a design consideration rather than a weather event. And unlike Bakersfield, the cold matters — a Tehachapi window loses heat at night for a good part of the year.
